HUB
Here you will find all the information and programs needed to connect, create files and join the group. Over the years The Flaming Lips have been pretty cool to people who tape shows (even though fans cannot do it openly). This HUB is the next step in the "Trading Post." Some people will still have to send Audio CD-Rs via mail, but if you have a fast modem or some patience you can hear live recordings without the shipping costs or even meeting anyone. I hope you will use the chat feature and say hello to fellow fans and chat with them. If you have a slow modem, it may be more cost and time efficient to e-mail the individual with the show you want and setup a postal mail trade. If your not interested in all the trading and downloading stuff, head on over to the "Flaming Lips FM" streaming radio station.
You will need to download the DC++ software and setup a username within the program. If you have any questions, just ask someone in the embedded chat area or e-mail me. It would help to have a large hard drive in your computer or clear up enough free space for your downloads.

Before I get to the HUB address and rules information, I want to make one last note of several useful software programs that every person should own. They are essential if you are downloading compressed audio from the hubs.
After talking to several people, I plan to use the flac file format rather than shn. I have chosen flac because it encodes to a slightly smaller size than shn, is both PC and mac friendly, can also encode 24/96 wav files, is a completely free format (so anyone can license it for free) and therefore it may become widespread, etc...
When you visit the FLAC Frontend site above, click on the download link in the navigation area. From there you can download FLAC encoders for windows, linux, mac and more.
You will likely come across some shn files. They are in essence, losslessly compressed wav files. The main difference is that it's verification information is stored in a separate file called a MD5. So here is some information on MD5 verification files and common problems.
----------Flaming Lips Hub----------
This is a publicly advertised hub. It has a few rules that visitors should abide by. If you don't, there is a very good chance you'll be shown the door. This hub is called "Flaming Lips Hub." For the time being it will serve as the Trading Posts' main meeting site as far as hubs go. In the future I would like to set up a mp3 friendly environment for all our 56K friends. For now, this is a lossless -only venue. If you don't have anything to share you can still come on in and download something from anyone and chat with us. This hub was set up and continuously hosted by Rod. We all owe him a big thank you! You can find alot more info on connecting, troubleshooting, downloading, help, etc at the "Flaming Lips Hub" website, see below. - Ryan Mulberger
Hub Address: flaminglips.no-ip.org
Hub Program: PtokaX DC Hub 0.3.2.6 TestDrive 4.99
Notes: Although we are a 24-7 outfit, expect the occasional update/reboot 1-2 times per week.
Hub Owner: Rod
Registration?: No.
The Rules: (by Rod)
1.) No MP3s, WMA or any other “lossy” forms of audio compression. Our goal
is not only to preserve Flaming Lips shows in the purest form possible, but also
to provide you with shows that you can share in the trading world in general.
MP3s sourced shows do not cut it... Sharing MP3s in here= YOU GET THE BOOT!
2.) Please, only share SHN and FLAC files here. No MKWs, since they are a pain
in the ass and no WAVs (they are too big and should be compressed in a lossless
format). Video files are fine, SO LONG AS THEY ARE NOT COMMERCIAL (MTV or
commercial dvd's)!!! Sharing anything other than the above= YOU GET THE BOOT!
3.) Please, everyone be nice to one another and share the wealth... When you are
finished downloading a show please share it! The Flaming Lips Hub should be a
place where EVERYONE can "have a good time all the time Marty."
(Spinal Tap references rewarded).
4.) Please, share only complete shows, and please provide original source info
as well as MD5's files. Also, for new seeds, make sure the taper has given you
permission to share on our hub. We don't want anyone to become disgruntled with
us. Respect the tapers and their wishes... We will flourish with gloriuos shows
as a result!!!
5.) No porn, no commercial material (albums, b-sides, T-shirts,
posters—anything The Lips have for sale), no warez, and oh yeah, NO COMMERCIAL
MATERIAL? Sharing any of the above items= YOU GET THE BOOT! Oh, by the way, no
commercial anything or porn... Sharing porn or commercial matterial in here is
bad mkay?
6.) We all have some great views on life and politics; please no big RADICAL/POLTICAL/EMOTIONAL
ideas in the main chat... TAKE THEM TO A PRIVATE MESSAGE or another hub that
wants it. We are here to serve one of the greatest bands. PM's are for topics
like that PLEASE; that is where they belong. Also, if you do something we (the
OPs) think is abusive you will be Banned.
6.5) "If you ain't got nothin good to play... Put that guitar down" --
sml42
7.) Have fun, be nice, and please share.
8.) Tell all your friends (and have them tell their friends) that
flaminglips.no-ip.org is up and now officially running!!!
